2012 Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion Australia

The 2011 Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion hit Australia. This model was, at first, introduced as a concept in 2008 before its debut in European market at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. The Golf Blue Motion, the tweaked fuel-sipper, is a product of Volkswagen Company. For the first time, this model could not go for sale in Australia because of the absence of a DSG automatic option. But finally Volkswagen changed it so that they could show the Golf BlueMotion at Sydney’s Australian International Motor Show (AIMS) last year, confirming a 2011 market launch. Now, the BlueMotion has been upon Australian market, being a competitor for the MINI’s Cooper D diesel and the iconic Toyota Prius hybrid.

The 2011 Golf BlueMotion is offered with Volkswagen 1.6 liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine – a powertrain that, in its regular Golf 77TDI guise, offers already pleasing fuel consumption figures of 4.9 liter per 100km on the combined cycle. With this engine, the BlueMotion can produce 77kW and 250Nm of torque, with the help of specialized tweaks and add-ons.

This variant only consumes 3.8 liter of diesel fuel per 100km. This BlueMotion is better, consuming less fuel, than its competitors, the Cooper D and the Prius with 3.9 liter per 100km.

The Golf BlueMotion’s fuel-sipper features are a modified engine management system and a lower idling speed, along with regenerative braking, a stop-start system, low-rolling-resistance tires, lightweight wheels and lowered suspension.
